Kislaya Nursery School

Established in 1967, Kislaya is a non-profit private educational organization that serves that serves the community of the IIT Kanpur campus. The year 2020 was unexpectedly an extremely difficult time due to the worldwide pandemic COVID-19 situation. The pandemic introduced uncertainty into all aspects of life, both on a national and global scale. Technology played a major role in teaching-learning, online schooling process despite the nationwide lockdown. In spite of demanding conditions, Kislaya tried its best to make online classes as fun and engaging as possible. The School rounded up some of the best online activities and festival celebrations to keep small children engaged in various learning experiences and enjoyable events to give them almost the same real life classroom experiences wherever possible.

Organization of Classes

  • Before the commencement of live classes, homework and videos made by teachers were sent regularly in the google classroom from May 2020
  • The first interactive class was taken on July 2020 with base strength of 80 students.
  • September onwards, live online classes were conducted regularly.

Teaching Covid-19 Safety Measures

  • Students were taught about the COVID-19 virus and its preventive measures to keep themselves safe and healthy.
  • The first interactive class was taken on July 2020 with base strength of 80 students.
  • Importance of washing/sanitizing hands, wearing masks and social distancing was mentioned regularly.

Examination

  • K.G – No formal exams were taken but students were evaluated based on the given assignments and class response.

  • Collage work.

  • Origami.
  • Candle decoration.
  • Different ways of printing – Thumb printing, vegetable printing, cotton printing, bud printing, etc.
  • Pasting activities – Matchsticks, glitter, button, paper, etc.
  • Storytelling.
  • Poem recitation.

Celebration

  • Independence Day – Singing of national anthem, discussions about freedom ighters.
  • Raksha Bandhan – Interactive Rakhi making session.
  • Janmashtami – Interactive storytelling about Janmashtami and its origin.
  • Dussehra – Storytelling about the occasion, fancy dress event and virtual dandiya party.
  • Diwali – Interactive candle decorating session, virtual puja and rangoli.
  • Christmas Day – Kids dressed up as Santa, Christmas tree decoration, interactive story telling session and virtual dance party.
  • Republic Day – Live lag hoisting from school, national anthem and other patriotic songs.
