Applications are invited for one position of Senior Project Scientist for one year (extendable based on performance) in the DST-sponsored project titled "Map Generalization – Modelling and Automatic Derivation of Multiple Representations of Geographical Features for Multiscale Mapping" at the National Centre for Geodesy / Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Kanpur.

Minimum qualification:

  • Ph.D.* (Geoinformatics / Civil / Computer Science / Information Technology / Earth Sciences / Electronics) + 1 year of relevant experience
  • Or

    Postgraduate (MCA or M.Sc. in Geoinformatics / Computer Science / Information Technology / Earth Sciences / Electronics) + 4 years of relevant experience

    *duration in Ph.D. degree, after three years will be considered as research experience.

Desirable:

  • Good understanding of Cartography, GIS, and Topographic Mapping
  • Experience in GIS programming, QGIS software, and PostgreSQL + PostGIS
  • Proficient in Python and Java programming languages
  • Basic understanding of Unified Modelling Language (UML) and GitHub
  • Basic knowledge of coordinate geometry and vector algebra

Nature of the work:

  • Designing, developing, and implementing map generalization algorithms in Python
  • Developing QGIS toolbox for generalizing geographical features
  • Analysis of data and results
  • Drafting manuscripts

Number of positions: One

Term of appointment: The initial appointment will be for one year and may be extended based on performance.

Salary: Rs. 61,200 + 18% HRA
