Smart Materials Structures and Systems Laboratory (SMSS), Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Kanpur, is seeking passionate and motivated researchers to develop alternate means of transportation of coal/ores from open cast mines to the user agencies through pipe-following robots. The team comprises researchers and industry professionals from diverse backgrounds, including Computational Fluid Dynamics, Mechanical Design, Mechatronics. We are looking forward to designing a compressed airflow-powered robotic transportation module and carrying out physics-based virtual simulations of the transportation system. We seek accomplished individuals, in the domain of CFD, Multi-body simulations, Fluid-Structure Interactions, who can substantially contribute to the project's objectives.


Name of the Post: Project Post Doctoral Fellow – One Position

Salary: 60000-5000-85000 INR (Based on the candidate's suitability, additional increments will be given at the time of appointment).

Minimum Qualification: Ph.D* from a reputed university /institute and an excellent track record and publications /patents in a research area relevant to the sponsored project.

Desirable Qualifications: PhD from a reputed university /institute and an excellent track record and publications /patents in a research area relevant to the sponsored project.

Essential Skillsets: The ideal candidate should have,

  • Background in multibody dynamics simulation of the robotic system using COMSOL/ANSYS
  • Strong knowledge of Mathematical Modeling of pipe-following robots (Kinematics and Dynamics)
  • Proficiency in conducting two-way fluid-structure interaction (FSI) simulations with dynamic meshing and discrete particle method
  • Impressive publications track record in reputed journals highlighting the candidate's simulation skills
  • Experience in using simulation software on High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems
  • Proficiency in drafting technical documentation related to project progress
  • Team spirit to collaborate effectively with team members to achieve common goals, fostering open communication and a positive working environment

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research in the domain of Robotics and Fluid Dynamics, focusing on pipe-following robots
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to execute project goals for the design and development of a pipe-following robot
  • Contribute innovative ideas and solutions to enhance the efficiency and functionality of the robotic system
  • Preparing and publishing research articles in peer-reviewed journals
  • Draft and revise project report/technical documentation/progress presentation
