Hi everybody, You might have wondered why no list of projects is up for the area of research that goes by the label of Artificial Intelligence. This email tries to tell you what I expect students to do as part of project in AI: 1) Choose a topic that intrigues the student- AI is full of intriguing questions that can be pondered on- but the only questions you can ponder on are the ones that excite *you* in the first place. (2 days) 2) That is not to say that we would only be pondering. The next thing to do would be to draft a problem statement- i.e. trim a ponderable question to an experimentable statement.(1 day) 3) Do a literature survey to figure out if others have been working on the same, or on allied problems.(2 days) 4) Decide on the goals of the project- what is going to be done in the first 10 days, what will be aimed at for the final presentation, whether the project would be continued later, what would this future work be. (3 hours) 5) Design/ experiment / modify existing algos/ think up clever hacks/ come up with breakthroughs instead of hacks. (15 days) 6) Prepare a presentation and report. (1 day) I have some projects in mind that will act as a back up plan- but note- they will remain a backup plan- I expect you to excercise your grey cells and I will not try to 'prime' your search in any way by telling you what I think are interesting things to do. This is your project. eakta
