1) What degree is being offered by DoMS?

The degree being offered is “Master of Business Administration” by the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.

 

2) Do we get a specialized MBA degree or a general management MBA degree?

It is a general management program and the same would be written on the degree. However, students are offered a variety of elective courses from different domains which they can take from 2nd semester.

 

3) Is the curriculum entirely Case study-based?

The curriculum is designed to have a proper mix of conceptual learning and practical exposure to real-time industry problems.

 

4) What is the faculty-to-student ratio at DoMS for the MBA program?

Currently the faculty-to-student ratio is 1:6

 

5) What is the fee for an MBA at IIT Kanpur?

6) Is hostel facility available for DoMS students?

Yes, hostel facility is available for the students inside the campus. You shall be granted a hostel room when the program starts.

 

 

Admission and Application Related Questions

 

1) What are the application fees for MBA 2024 admissions?

The application fee for General Category/EWS/NC-OBC category students is Rs. 2000/- and for SC/ST category students is Rs. 1000/-. However, there is no application fee for females.

 

2) Is the MBA program offered by DoMS only available for Engineering students?

No. The minimum eligibility for applying is given as follows:

A Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification obtained by the candidate must entail a minimum of three years of education after completing higher secondary schooling (10+2) or equivalent (diploma) with Mathematics as one of the subjects. Kindly note that a student without Mathematics in 10+2 will not be eligible for the MBA Programme of IIT Kanpur.

3) Can a non-engineer apply for an MBA program at IIT Kanpur?

4) Is work experience a necessary criteria for doing MBA and if yes, what is the ideal length?

1) What is the candidate selection process?

The candidates will be selected for the final offer based on a composite score computed based on the factors given below:

2) Will there be a sectional cut-off in CAT for shortlisting for Interviews?

No, IIT Kanpur does not take any sectional cuttofs and only overall cutoffs are considered for shortlisting candidates for the Interviews as well as for subsequent selection rounds.

 

3) How much weightage is given to work experience?

Work-experience has been given 10% weightage in the final composite score. The criteria-wise weightage has been mentioned on the website. Please visit the website for more details.

 

4) How much weightage does a CAT score have?

CAT score bears a weightage of 20% for the final selection.

 

5) I have a CGPA out of 10 but not a percentage as the final score. Should I convert my CGPA into a percentage and fill it in?

No, only if your university provides the conversion formula from CGPA to Percentage then you may fill in. Otherwise please fill in your CGPA/CPI only.

 

6) How do I prepare for the PI?

The candidates will be evaluated in terms of their academic aptitude, business acumen, communication skills, and interpersonal abilities.

 

7) When can I expect an interview call?

The tentative dates have been mentioned on the website. Further updates will be communicated through our official handles.

 

8) Where will the GD-PI process take place?

There are two centres for GD-PI process. You may opt for one that is closest to your place while registering.

 

9) What are the expected dates for the GD-PI process?

The tentative dates are 15th, 16th, 17th March and the process will be conducted in two places, IITK Campus in Kanpur and IITK Outreach Centre in Noida.

(These dates are subject to change as per the final decision and will be intimated to the shortlisted student on the admissions portal)

 

10) Is it possible to change my centre for GD-PI process after registration?

No. There isn’t any such provision for changing the GD-PI centers.

 

11) Is there a list of documents to bring for the document verification?

A list of documents will be communicated through mail with the invitation for an interview call.

 

12) Is there a provision for rescheduling of GD-PI round?

No. The schedule for the GD-PI process is communicated a month prior and candidates are expected to manage their schedule accordingly.

 

12) When do we need to pay admission fees?

The last date for paying the admission fees will be communicated through the mail with the offer letter.

 

 

Other Questions

 

1) Does the college provide any assistance in securing a loan for the fees?

There are 3 banks, namely, State Bank of India, ICICI, and Union Bank of India inside the campus. They provide loan facilities to the students. One can directly contact them to avail of loan facilities.

 

2) What is the maximum batch size?

There is no upper limit on the size of the batch. With the increase in faculty members, the size of the batch keeps on increasing.
DoMS is currently functioning with 29 faculty members from various specialisations in Management. The batch strength is determined based on the final pool of suitable students enrolling in the program.
