  • What is the PGPEX-VLM?

    The PGPEX-VLM refers to IIMC'S full-time one-year residential Post Graduate Programme in Manufacturing Management. This is comparable in rigor and content to a regular one-year full-time MBA programme offered by MIT-LFM.


  • What are the evaluation criteria during the program? Will I have to pass examination at the end of the Program to get the Diploma?

    Each course will have continuous evaluation system based on pedagogy and can include examination, term projects, class interaction etc. Each course will be graded and grade point average will be calculated for each term and full course. You will be required to maintain prescribed academic standard to complete the course. Inability to do so will result in dismissal from the programme as per the prescribed regulation of each Institute.

  • Does successful completion of PGPEX-VLM program leads to an MBA degree?

    A diploma will be awarded jointly by IIMC, IITK and IITM. The diploma conferred is titled "Post Graduate Diploma in Management for Executives in Manufacturing (PGDM for Executives in Manufacturing)." This is equivalent to other PGDM degrees offered by all premier institutes in India.


Admission Criteria
  • What are the criteria for admission to the PGPEX-VLM Programme?

    The eligibility criteria are:
    • Students must possess an undergraduate/graduate or post-graduate degree in any discipline of engineering from leading engineering colleges/institutions.
    • A minimum of 4½ (four and half) full-time post qualification work experience in a managerial post.
    • A GMAT score is preferred.
    • An aptitude test.
    • Personal interview.


  • What is the GMAT?

    The GMAT is the Graduate Management Admission Test conducted by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) and is a globally recognised test for admission to business schools.

  • Is it mandatory to take the GMAT before applying to the PGPEX-VLM?

    A GMAT/GRE score is not mandatory. If you have the score, it is treated as a part of your academic record.

  • I have a GMAT or a GRE score. Do I have to appear for the Aptitude Test?

    Yes, you will have to appear for the Aptitude Test, if short-listed in consideration of particulars stated in the application form. Note:-GMAT/GRE score is only used to evaluate part of your academic record mentioned in the Application Form. The decision to allow you to take the Aptitude Test is based on screening result of your Application Form. All candidates short-listed on the basis of Application Form will have to appear in the Aptitude Test.


Application Process
  • I do not have a GMAT score. Am I eligble for applying to PGPEX-VLM?

    Yes, you are eligible. GMAT/GRE score is not mandatory. If you have the score, it is treated as a part of your academic record.

  • I have a GMAT or a GRE score. Do I have to appear for the Aptitude Test?

    Yes, you will have to appear for the Aptitude Test, if short-listed in consideration of particulars stated in the application form.   • What will the venue/date of the Aptitude Test?

    The venue of the Aptitude Test will be Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. Additional venue may be in Mumbai, Chennai and Gurgaon depending on number of applicants. The tentative date of the Aptitude Test is January 08, 2017. The test would be conducted from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon. Short listed candidates after the Aptitude Test would have to appear for a Personnel Interview on January 08, 2017 itself or a suitable date at IIK Kolkata.

  • What is the structure of the Aptitude Test?

    The duration of the Aptitude Test is 2 hours. The test comprises three parts. Part I consists of analytical ability, Part II verbal abilities and Part III engineering aptitude. There will be 25% negative marking in the Aptitude Test.

  • What will be the pattern of engineering aptitude section in the aptitude test?

    There is no prescribed syllabus for the engineering aptitude section of the Aptitude Test. The idea is to test the candidate's ability to apply some fundamental engineering concepts across various disciplines. Specific and advanced level preparation of any particular branch of engineering is not required.

  • How do I fill the name and other details in the application form?

    Please DOWNLOAD the application form and take a printout in an A4 paper. As much as possible, please provide the name and other details in block letters. It is advised that information to be provided in section 1 of the application form titled “personal information” be done in BLOCk LETTERS, all in upper case. Similarly, it is also advised that Present and Permanent address be also done in UPPER CASE BLOCK LETTERS.

  • Where accommodation would be provided for the Aptitude Test & Interview at IITK?

    Limited twin sharing chargeable accomodation may be available, subject to first cum first serve basis.

  • Do I get a Post-Graduate Diploma at the completion of the Program?

    A Joint Post Graduate Diploma in Management for Executives in Manufacturing will be awarded jointly by IIMC, IITK, and IITM on successful completion of the program subject to compliance of all formalities and terms by the candidate.

  • What are the estimated expenses for boarding, lodging and industry tours?

  • What is the batch size of the Program?

    The batch size is between 35 to 40.

  • Will I be provided family accommodation during my course work?

    No family accommodation would be provided. Furnished single/twin sharing basis accommodation would be provided.

  • What are the evaluation criteria during the Program and will I have to pass examination at the end of the Program to get the Diploma?

  • Whould there be any essay question and/or recommendations in application form?

    Yes , and they are closely considered for selection along with other experience credentials.

  • I applied last year didn't get through to final selection, can I apply again?

    Yes , as long as you fulfill eligibility criteria you can apply, your last failure would not be accounted for selection.


Fees
  • Can I pay the fees in installments?

    Yes. The present program fees is at Rs. 9,00,000 (plus taxes as applicable) which is currently under revision. The fees are expected to increase subject to approval from competent authorities. However, as an example if the fee is Rs. 9,00,000; then it has to be paid in five installments of Rs. 60,000, Rs. 3,52,500, Rs. 1,95,000, Rs. 1,95,000 & Rs. 97,500 through demand draft spread over one year duration of the program. Payment of first installment of Rs. 60,000 has to be made by Demand Draft drawn in favour of Indian Institute of Management Calcutta and payable in Kolkata with the acceptance of the admission offer on or before the last date specified for acceptance of admission.

  • How do I accept the offer of admission?

    You may accept the offer made by remitting a non-refundable admission fee of INR 60,000 within the deadline specified in the offer mail. If the amount has not been paid within the deadline, it will be assumed that the applicant is not interested in joining the programme.

  • Is the admission fee in addition to the tution fees?

    No. The admission fee is part of the tuition fees.

  • Are the fees and charges paid, refundable on cancellation of offer, admission withdrawal, and nonreporting of registration for any reason?

    Fees and Charges paid are not refundable under any circumstances.

  • Can the admission offer acceptance date be extended?

    No. The acceptance dates are fixed by the Admissions Committee. If the acceptance amount is not received by the due date it will be assumed that the applicant is not interested in the programme and the offer made to the applicant will stand automatically withdrawn.

  • Does this fees include all travel and sundry costs too?

    No, candidate have to bear all inland travel charges which includes Japan travel as well.


Financial Aid
  • I fulfil the eligibility criteria bet can not afford the full tution fee. Can the IIMC help?

    Financial Aid is provided to students in the form of loans. Loans: Student loans are available through a few leading financial institutions. Please check the relevant website for details contact sbi.06210@sbi.co.in

  • When can one apply for an education loan?

    Once the admission process has been completed, all admitted students will be informed of the loan application process.

  • Can I get a sponsorship from the company where I am working?

    Yes. Applicants are encouraged to get themselves sponsored by their employers.

  • Are there any other criteria to be fulfilled by the applicant for getting sponsorship from their employer?

    No, there are no separate admission criteria for such candidates and the regular admission procedure will apply.

  • How does one apply to companies for sponsorships?

    Each company has its own policies on sponsoring of high potential employees. lIt is up to you to ensure sponsorship from the company you are currently employed with.

  • Is there a different fee structure for sponsord students?

    No. The fee structure and the selection criteria are universally applicable.

  • Does IIMC offer any sponsorship / fees waiver to candidates of this program?

    No, such provisions are available at present.


Internship
  • Is there a summer internship at the IIMC? If yes, how does it work?

    • Yes there is a summer internship and also an international visit of Japan.
    • Cost of domestic visits: approximately Rs. 60 thousand (on actuals)
    • Cost of international visit: approximately Rs. 2 lacs (on actuals)


  • When and how internship is offered?

    IIMC invites companies on campus to offer 6-7 week internship to VLM candidates, but selection is solely dependent on student’s caliber and company’s policy. Institute in no way guarantees selection to all.


Placements
  • When do the Placements start?

    Placements normally start in the mid 7th term and go on for a week. The final offers are made/decided during the placement weeks only.

  • Does the IIMC gaurantee placements? What are the placements for graduates of the IIMC PGPEXVLM likely to be?

    No commitment can be made on this. The IIMC does not guarantee placements but every effort is made by the Career Development Cell Office to help students find and secure their ideal career opportunities.

  • How was the placement scenario this year? Which are the companies that recruited this year? What was the average salary offered? What are the kinds of companies expected to visit at the end of the course?

    Intention of the course is that participant would contribute and commit to manufacturing and allied sectors.

  • Do IIMC follow similar placement process as that PGP or PGPEX programs?

    As this program caters to specialized industry and also considering that the candidates are with considerable amount of industry experience a rolling process has been designed to suit and fit their schedule.

  • What is the role of visiting faculty at the IIMC?

    The IIMC invites faculty to teach a course during a term in special modules and they are available during the session. Faculty from various industries and universities of Japan comes for this program.

  • How accessible are the faculty to the students?

    Faculty members are easily accessible to the students, as they stay on campus throughout the term.


Infrasturcture & Faclities
  • Are all students required to live on campus?

    Given the rigor of the course, it is a fully residential programme for all students.

  • Do you provide family accommodation for married students?

    No family accommodation would be provided. Furnished single/twin sharing basis accommodation would be provided.

  • What are the estimiated expenses for boarding, lodging?

    Cost of accommodation and boarding at IIM/IIT: approximately Rs. 7,000 to Rs. 8,000 pm (on actuals)

  • What are the facilities provide on campus?

Miscellaneous
  • Will part-time work experience be considered?

    Work experience should be full-time. Part-time work experience will not be considered.

  • Will I need to buy text books?

    No. most study materials and books are included in the course packs, periodically you will need not have to buy text books for various courses.
