The Campus of IIT Kanpur is located off the Grand Trunk Road about 16 km west of Kanpur city.

By Air

Lucknow airport is the nearest airport located about 80 kms (~1.5 hrs) from IIT Kanpur. Taxis are available at the airport for ~2000 Rs. (~31 USD). Lucknow airport has direct flights to all major cities of India (New Delhi, Kolkata/Calcutta, Mumbai/Bombay, Chennai/Madras, Bengaluru/Bangalore), and also to many countries in the Middle-East. Note that Delhi to Lucknow is 1 hr. flight.

By Rail

Kanpur Central Railway station is well connected to most cities in North, East and Central India. It is located on the Delhi-Kolkata train route and all major trains between these cities usually pass through Kanpur. IIT Kanpur is located at a distance of about 16 km from the Kanpur Central Railway Station. Note that Delhi to Kanpur a 6 hr. train ride, and we recommend travel by Shatabdi Express (Train# 12004 in the morning and Train# 12034 in the evening). If you are coming by train, do let us know in advance and we will be happy to arrange a taxi pickup.

By Road

Kanpur is well connected by road. The Yamuna Expressway from Delhi to Agra connects at Agra to the Agra-Lucknow Expressway which passes close to IIT Kanpur. The total ride of about 450 km. takes about 7 hrs.
