French cricket is a very informal version of cricket, with rules reminiscent
of softball, hammer throwing and God knows what else! It's totally arbit (hence French
:)), totally fast 'n' furious, and totally fun.
Venue: Football Ground
Teams:
- French cricket will be played in the Men's category only.
- 7 players per team.
- You may change your team before a match, or have substitute fielders
during a match. However, no player who is registered in or has played for
another team can play in your team.
Rules:
- Each team gets to bat for 15 minutes each (which also means that a
team can be penalized for wasting time).
- Your playing area is a circle of diameter ~3 feet in
which you stand. You have the privilege of hopping around in the circle if you
wish.
- You are required to keep your ankles together as long as
you are batting in the circle.
- If your bat slides out of your hand, and falls outside the circle,
you aren’t deemed "out", but you have to retrieve it without breaking the
connection of your feet, and without stepping out of the circle. You can touch
the area outside the circle with your hands though.
- You can be given out in the following ways:
- Caught
- If the ball hits you below the knees
- If the connection of your ankles breaks
- You step/hop out of the circle
- A batsman's innings starts when the fielder with the ball throws it at
him. This first ball must be underarm.
- Runs can be scored only off the bat.The batsman hits the ball to some part
of the field and scores runs by swinging the bat round him.
- The fielders retrieve the ball and throw it back at the batsman.
Any fielder may throw it back, and this constitutes the next ball.
- In case the ball crosses the boundary, it must be returned to the
starting crease/to the batsman. Until then, the batsman is free to take as
many runs as he wishes.
- All balls must be thrown below the batsman's waist level.
- Passing of balls between the players is not allowed. All
balls must be aimed within the reach of the batsman, failing which the bowler
has to retake the throw. Till then, the batsman can keep on scoring.
- When throwing from inside a circle marked on the ground, all balls
must be underarm. Any wrong throw from within the marked circle would
mean an additional two runs for the batting team.
- Each batsman's innings continues uninterrupted until he gets out or time
is over.
- All players get a chance to bat (unless, of course, your captain wants to
declare). The game ends either when the run-chase
is successful, or when both teams are all out, or when the second team has
used up its allotted time.
- A bowler cannot feint a batsman more than twice in succession.
- Other details will be clarified on the field by the umpire and the
organizers. For quick online clarifications, contact
