Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) and Massive MIMO are the latest wireless technologies, which are employed in 4G/5G wireless cellular standards such as Long Term Evolution (LTE/LTEA), high speed WLAN standards 802.11 ac, 802.11 ax and also in future 5G Networks. These advanced technologies are envisaged to support data rates in excess of 1 Gbps through MIMO/OFDM/Massive MIMO and thus enable high rate applications in wireless systems such as broadcast/multicast video, HDTV on demand, high speed internet access, interactive gaming amongst others. This is driving wireless telecommunication designers and researchers to focus heavily on the research and development of MIMO/ OFDM/ Massive MIMO based wireless networks which have proven to be the top wireless technologies for 4G/5G cellular networks.

This course is especially intended as an elaborate summer project for engineers, faculty members of engineering colleges and B.Tech/M.Tech/Ph.D. students. This will provide participants with an in depth technical exposure to MIMO, Massive MIMO and OFDM wireless communications together with hands on simulation experience. The modular approach will provide the participants with a comprehensive treatment of the theory behind MIMO, Massive MIMO and OFDM technologies such as fading channels, diversity order, Bit-Error Rate (BER) performance etc, including aspects such as space-time coding, beamforming and others. All the classes will be conducted in "classroom" style towards building up the various theoretical aspects beginning with the fundamentals, together with problem solving sessions to further enhance and consolidate understanding. Also, a MATLAB/ SIMULINK demonstration module will be held to introduce the participants to the practical implementation and simulation aspects of MIMO-OFDM wireless systems. A one-day mini-project will also be conducted (on 23rd June, 2017) to provide hands-on training and simulate the performance of the latest MIMO, Massive MIMO, OFDM technologies.
