Two-day First Annual Designing Exposition (ADEX)
at Samtel Building was inaugurated by Professor Prashant Kumar, Head
of the Department of the Design Programme. Professor Prashant Kumar
said that there were two aspects of designing. Firstly, either the designing
should be done according to the specified requirements of a particular
industry for its product or it should be done in general keeping in
mind the needs of the people of the society in general. But in any case
designing has become the first condition for any article to go for mass
production.
The best designs were those which proved to be user-friendly,
economically viable and producer favourite. Dr. Kumar said we at the
IIT try to equip our students with this sense of understanding so that
they could come out as perfect designers at the end of their course
here. The innovations included Product Design that takes into account
consumer products, special need products, packaging and automative design.
The visual communication included graphic design, user interface design,
animation and films.
Addressing the students of the Designing Programme
Senior Professor at the Computer Science Department Dr. Amitabh Mukerjee
spoke about the "Innovation; Art Engineering and Pedagogy".
He said creativity and the spirit of innovation was the result of the
surplus knowledge within the human mind which often found its expression
through art, science literature, technology and other branches of knowledge.
