Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur conducted a five-day training of the civil engineering teachers of Uttar Pradesh Polytechnics during June 14-18, 2004. This short-term course has provided training to the teachers so that they can effectively implement the recently introduced earthquake engineering subject in the civil engineering diploma programmes. Teachers from across the state and representatives of IRDT and Department of Technical Education, Government of UP, have under gone lectures, laboratory demonstrations and tutorials to gain confidence in the subject.

The course was inaugurated by Shri S.K. Malviya, Deputy Director, IRDT, Government of UP. Professor Satish C. Koria, Head, CDTE, IITK presided over the function. The course was conducted by Prof. Durgesh, C. Rai, Prof. C.V.R. Murty and Prof. Sudhir K. Jain of Department of Civil Engineering, IITK.
