Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and the Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo, Japan to promote joint activities |
In an agreement signed today between the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and the Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo, Japan the two institutes agreed to strengthen joint research and other academic activities. They decided to cooperate in fields of science and engineering, through exchange of researchers, organizing academic meetings, symposia and workshops, exchange of information and academic publications. The agreement will be for a period of 5 years.
A meeting was held today at the IIT Kanpur
and was attended by the Head, Department of Civil Engineering, Director, Indian
Institute of Technology, Kanpur and Prof Taketo Uomoto, Director, International
Centre for Urban Safety Engineering, Institute of Industrial Science, The
University of Tokyo. In the meeting the need for closer cooperation between
the two institutes was emphasized. It was agreed that efforts would be made
to identify areas of mutual interest, and concrete action would be initiated
as soon as possible. A Japanese delegation led by Prof Uomoto, comprising
of Prof K Meguro and Prof R Amano is currently on a two-day visit to Indian
Institute of Technology, Kanpur. They visited the structural engineering laboratory
of the Department of Civil Engineering and other Institute facilities including
the National Wind tunnel, Central Library and the Computer center, and were
appreciative of the facilities and the work being carried out.
