Scientific Computing Course Opens at IIT Kanpur
The one week course on Scientific Computing with MATLAB at IIT Kanpur was inaugurated in the morning on Monday, 7th June 2004. The purpose of the course is to nurture and promote analytical and computational research and application in various fields of engineering and science. The course is mainly funded by the QIP programme of the AICTE, MHRD. Around 40 participants from among college teachers and industry personnel joined the week-long programme. The course was coordinated by Dr.Bhaskar Dasgupta of Mechanical Engineering Department and Dr.R.Tewari of the Computer Centre of the Institute.
At the inauguration ceremony, Dr.Dasgupta mentioned that computational research is a field in which Indian technocrats have a bright potential to lead the field, and to that end such programmes and activities make a contribution. Prof. Dheeraj Sanghi, Head, Computer Centre outlined the resources and activities of the CC at the Institute. Prof. N.N.Kishore, Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering gave a short profile of the department and also elaborated the strengths of the software MATLAB in the field of scientific computing. Prof.S.C.Koria, Head, Centre for Development of Technical Education gave an informative outline of the activities and programmes of the CDTE at the Institute.
