Cadets of 2 UP Composite (Technical) Regiment NCC, under NCC Group Headquarters, Kanpur and NCC Directorate (Uttar Pradesh and Uttaranchal) undertook a tree plantation as part of social service activity in the IIT Campus on 21 Aug 04.

Lt. Col. DC Rujay, Commanding Officer of the Regiment conducted the event. A novel method was adopted in kindling the young minds. They were asked to give their views on the 'Relevance of Tree Plantation Today And Its Effects Tomorrow'. Being from an elite institution, they were able to relate to social, environmental and engineering concerns.

After the discussion, 197 cadets were involved in planting 50 saplings of different varieties of fruit bearing and shade giving trees. The cadets were guided on the method of planting saplings and watering to enhance their survival rate. They undertook a pledge to nurture the saplings planted by them, during their entire training period at the Institute. Further, they said they would come to see the health and well being of the trees whenever they visit their Alma Mater even in the distant future. After all, they have to hand over this world to generation next plus.
