Introduction:

The National Service Scheme (NSS) at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) recently initiated a process where 26 dedicated volunteers with a spirit of service provided assistance at the IITK Shivani Center. The aim of this initiative was to enhance language translation efforts at the Shivani Center and provide assistance in various areas. In this report, we outline the essence of this dedication initiative and highlight the valuable contributions made by the volunteers.

Background:

The IITK Shivani Center for Learning and Teaching at IIT Kanpur is a dynamic hub fostering innovative teaching methods, curriculum development, and faculty training. Established in memory of Shivani Agarwal, an esteemed alumna, the center promotes excellence in education through workshops, seminars, and research projects. It collaborates with faculty to enhance pedagogical practices, integrate technology, and create engaging learning environments. Additionally, the center supports student success through academic advising and mentoring programs . However, the IITK community felt the need for more assistance in providing better service.

Volunteer Contributions:

Volunteers actively participated in various activities to enhance the operations of the Shivani Center. Some activities included:

  • All volunteers dedicated 10 hours of service, ranging during the months of September, October, and November.
  • Our NSS team has conducted language improvement programs to assist students in enhancing their proficiency in the English language. This includes promoting the use of translation services and engaging in language learning activities.
  • The team has provided support in finding solutions to academic challenges. Offering extra guidance and support, it has been instrumental in helping students improve their academic performance.
  • Our NSS team has organized health education programs, incorporating CPR, first aid, and basic health awareness. This initiative has provided students with essential knowledge about the importance of health.
These efforts by our NSS team have contributed significantly to creating a more supportive and enriched environment at the Shivani Centre.
