Applications are invited for two Project Scientist positions
(Equivalent to postdoctoral research associate and also open to
exceptional candidates with MTech/MSc and relevant experience)
for a project funded by the Boeing Co., USA, which is being executed
jointly by the Mechanical Engineering and Chemistry Departments
of Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. The project involves performing
extensive large scale ab-initio, Molecular Dynamic and Finite Element
computations on certain high performance polymers with a view to
understanding their mechanical properties. The research groups involved
in the project have excellent computational facilities for carrying
out these computations. Moreover, both groups have extensive research
experience in relevant areas.
Name of Positions: Project Scientist
Qualifications and Experience desired: Ph.D. in
Computational Chemistry, Physics, Material Science or Engineering
with experience in performing large scale MD, Finite Element and/or
ab-initio calculations. It will help if the candidate also has a
background in Polymer Physics. Exceptional candidates without a
Ph.D. may also be considered if they possess experience in the areas
mentioned above. The candidate will be expected to coordinate between
the groups and function in an inter-disciplinary environment.
Experience: Candidate should preferably have experience
in Computational Materials Science, computational Chemistry, with
knowledge of one or more atomistic simulation techniques. We also
need candidates who are well versed in the Finite Element Method.
Salary: INR. 22000-2200-44000.
Additionally, on campus accommodation may be provided.
The post is purely temporary, and the duration of appointment will
be till the completion of the project i.e, 30.4.2014 with the possibility
of further extension based on performance. Interested candidates
must apply within 15 days by email to Dr Sumit Basu (sbasu@iitk.ac.in),
Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Kanpur or Dr Nisanth Nair
(nnair@iitk.ac.in), Department
of Chemistry, IIT Kanpur. They should enclose a detailed CV and
indicate when they will be available for appointment. Hard copies
of applications may also be sent to
