This course presents basic concepts in optics necessary for an understanding of optical communication, remote sensing, image processing and biomedical systems.
Review of Maxwell's and electromagnetic wave equations (3); Wave propagation in anisotropic media (4); Polarized light (1); Diffraction from circular aperture and concept of resolution (3); Fourier transforms and Fourier optics, Spatial filtering, and Image Processing (9); Coherence, Holography (4); Optical Waveguides and integrated optics (4); Optical fibres, Optical sources (LED, Lasers etc.) and detectors, and optical communication (8); Electro- and magneto- optic effects (4); Laser-matter interaction (2).
