Prerequisites: No prior knowledge is expected, except an interest in music. After two/three classes student has to arrange violin for him/her. A couple of practice violin instruments may be available.

Day 1. Introduction to Hindustani classical music and this course.
Day 2. Detailed description of violin and its parts. Holding of Violin and its bow.
Day 3. Bowing on violin and few exercises on bowing on different strings.
Day 4. Playing bow in different speeds and few more exercises on bowing.
Day 5. Holding left hand on violin and playing 4 swaras on one string.
Day 6. Playing 7 basic swaras on Violin on all the four strings with few simple exercises.
Day 7. Playing few simple alankaars with basic swaras.
Day 8. Learning Komal and Teevra swar on Violin with few alankaars using these swaras.
Day 9. Playing five simple Thaats on Violin
Day 10. Playing swaras of Thaat on all the four strings with few exercises.
Day 11. Playing National Anthem on Violin.
Day 12. Introduction to Raag and its important features with some rules.
Day 13. Introduction to Raag Yaman and playing some ‘Swar Abhyaas’ on Violin.
Day 14. Understanding ‘Bandish’ or composition and playing a ‘Madhyalaya Bandish’ of Raag Yaman.
Day 15. Concept of
Taan and making small ‘sthai’ ‘Taans’ in Raag Yaman.
Day 16. Practice Session with Tabla.
Day 17. Playing full ‘bandish’ of raag ‘Yaman’ with Sthai Taan and Antara Taan.
Day 18. Playing a song based on Raag Yaman.
Day 19. Concept of ‘Nyaas Swar’ and ‘Alap’. Playing few small ‘Alaps’ of Raag Yaman.
Day 20. Incorporation of ‘Alaps’ in Bandish with Taal.
Day 21. ‘Tihai’ in Hindustani Classical Music- Basic formation and its use with in Bandish.
Day 22. Practice Session with Tabla.
Day 23. Introduction to Raag ‘Bhupali’.
Day 24. Playing Bandish (Composition) of Raag Bhupali.
Day 25. Making few Alaps and Taans in Raag Bhupali and implementing them in the Bandish.
Day 26. Practice Session for performing Raag Bhupali Madhyalay Bandish with Alaps and Taans.
Day 27. Performance and Assessment.

First-Come-First-Serve queue. You also commit that if selected you will pay the applicable fees and attend the course. Please pre-register only if you are serious about attending the OFFLINE course which will be held at the campus of IIT Kanpur. Based on the information you provide during pre-registration, course organizers will select you for the course and invite you to go to Step 2, i.e., REGISTRATION.
Selected participants who have completed pre-registration properly and have been invited by the Course Organizers will be required to complete their Registration by paying the applicable fees in a stipulated time period. The payment portal will be informed to the selected participants.
