About the Program
IIT Kanpur is one of the resource centers identified under the project ‘Capacity building for Human Resource Development in Unmanned Aircraft System (Drone and related Technology)’ funded by Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). IIT Kanpur has a rich history of conducting research and teaching in unmanned aerial systems and is first institute in the country to start MTech program on UAS
Mode of conduct:
Offline, with 22 hours of lecture, and 18 hours of hands-on training and demonstrations.
Course summary:
This course introduces the use of UAS (Unmanned Aerial Systems) and various sensors onboard UAS for geospatial data collection and intelligence. The course includes more than 20 hours of lectures and 20 hours of hands-on training and demonstration. The course will introduce participants to UAS design and various sensors that could be used onboard UAS including GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite Systems), Inertial Navigation Systems (INS), LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging), Camera etc., their operations and various processing pipelines and methodologies. The course will cover topics including, UAS design and control, Communication in UAS, Localization of UAS in outdoor and indoor environments, and sensor integration and fusion. The course will also include discussions on practical aspects of UAS operations, and methodologies for fusion of sensors to generate meaningful geospatial products. Over 1 week, the course will expose participants to the challenges of UAVS operations and associated challenges with sensor fusion.

- The faculty and research scholars can use the registration link given below to register for the link
- The nominations are accepted on first come first served basis and first 20 nominations (from participating institutes) are free (only for faculty and PhD scholars)
- For subsequent nominations from PI (after 20), registration is INR 5,000/- + GST, per participant.
- For others, the fee is as follows:
- Faculty and industry participants – INR 20,000/- + GST, per participant.
- Student participants outside of PI – INR 5,000/- + GST, per participant (B.Tech, M.Tech or PhD students).
- Note that registration fee is non-refundable, in case you do not attend the course.
- Travel and accommodation expenses must be borne by the participants themselves. Guest house accommodation may be available on payment basis.
- Registrations must be completed, and applicable payments must be made by the registration deadline (given below).
- Registration will be canceled automatically, if course fee is not paid by the mentioned deadline
