IGS- Kanpur Chapter

To promote closer interaction amongst geotechnical engineers spread all over the country, local chapters of the Society were introduced in 1968 and at present forty local chapters are functional. The nodal center for IGS-Kanpur-local-chapter is located at IIT Kanpur.

IGS Local chapter is organizing Workshop on Sustainable Geotechnics on 13th-14th October 2017.

The Indian Geotechnical Society (IGS) aims at promoting co-operation amongst engineers and scientists for the advancement and dissemination of knowledge in the fields of Soil Mechanics, Foundation Engineering, Soil Dynamics, Engineering Geology, Rock Mechanics, Snow and Ice Mechanics and allied fields and their practical applications. It provides a common forum for academicians, research workers, designers, construction engineers, equipment manufacturers and others interested in geotechnical activity

Development that meets the needs of the present while safeguarding Earth’s life-support system, on which the welfare of current and future generations depends is defined as sustainable development. Being associated with economic growth, social developments and environmental impacts geotechnical engineering is related to following areas of sustainability:
