24 February 2022: Full day workshop on “IAQ and Sustainability Challenges” by Dr.Anubha Goel.
A technical workshop titled 'IAQ and Sustainability Challenges', was organized by the Women's cell of ISHARAE -DC (Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers - Delhi Chapter). The workshop on February 24, 2022 started with a lecture by Dr. Anubha Goel, a member of the Central Working Committee of the ISHRAE- DC.
Thermal comfort is defined as a condition of mind that expresses satisfaction with the thermal environment. This was the focus of the talk examining, 'Thermal Comfort is a significant indicator towards acceptability of IEQ by occupants (title)'. Thermal comfort stands out as the most significant indicator amongst the items of environmental quality.
The session introduced, “Why Thermal Comfort in Buildings is Important”.
The discussion involved further assessment of a ‘comfortable’ location for occupants. The origin of the comfort equation, the difference between direct and perception-based thermal comfort indices, was highlighted.
The results from a current on-going research study by Dr. Anubha Goel’s team was well received.
The link between occupant thermal comfort status indoors, acceptability of IEQ as healthy, and a smart building, the functional unit of any smart city, was presented to a mixed group of students and professionals.
Health has a central place in UN's Sustainability Development Goal, (SDG 3). "Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages," underpinned by 13 targets that cover a broad spectrum of WHO's work. Almost all of the other 16 goals are related to health, or their achievement will contribute to a healthy lifestyle indirectly.
The talk concluded in examining what we can do to make the building interiors ' acceptable' towards health in an energy-efficient manner with low energy demand. Smart buildings integrate technology and IoT to provide solutions to the typical structure.
