The MoU between The Mehta Family Foundation and IIT Kanpur was signed on Nov. 02, 2019 to set-up The Mehta Family Centre for Engineering in Medicine on IITK campus. Mr. Rahul Mehta, the Founder of the Foundation, signed the historic MoU with IITK Director, Prof. Abhay Karandikar. The Mehta Family Foundation would support the construction of the new building. The Centre would be a world-class higher education institution with its prime focus on research; it would also offer bachelors, MS and PhD programs. The research focus would be on Regenerative Medicine, Molecular Medicine and Engineering, and Digital Medicine. These three areas are expected to revolutionise the way medicine is practiced in future. For enabling more impactful research (fundamental and applied), the Centre would leverage the existing strengths within core engineering departments of IITK and the Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering (biomedical research) while diversifying into new areas. The Centre would target to make a major impact in health care on terms of research/technology output.
