Highest Placement Percentage Recorded
at IIT Kanpur amongst all IITs

As IIT Kanpur closed its first phase of placement drive on 15 December 2017, the placement percentage figure stood at 77%. Considered the highest so far amongst all the IITs, 782 students of the total of 1015 registered have already received whopping offers including 21 from international firms. Though the second phase of placements is yet to begin, the institute has already surpassed its own previous year’s record. While 81% of the registered undergraduates have been placed, the postgraduate placements have risen by 33%. The number of pre-placement offers (PPOs) has increased by 21% and the average CTC has gone up with 100+ students having received packages more than Rs. 25 lakhs.

Department-wise Placements

Besides the Computer Science and Engineering department that displays stellar performance every year, several other departments have observed more than 80% of their registered students getting placed. These numbers only corroborate the institute’s existing liberal academic curriculum that allows students to take up varied courses of their own interest.

Recruiters Presence

A total of 219 domestic and international firms have so far participated in the placement drive. Twenty-one of these are international firms such as US-based Microsoft, Uber and Rubrik, and Asian firms like Samsung, RV Capital Management, CBS Techno and Schlumberger. A Pune-based MNC, KPIT Technologies, has made 4 offers for its Germany office. The top CTCs (Costs to Company) were recorded from Uber, Rubrik and Microsoft.

Amongst the domestic recruiters, Intel, Tata Motors, EXL Services and HSBC topped the list. The highest packages were doled out by Tower Research, WorldQuant and Uber India. The first time-recruiters included BlackRock, Michelin, UIDAI and Rubrik Inc.

Sector-wise Placement

This year, the Technology and Analyst roles remained the dominant profiles followed by core engineering positions. The other sectors included Consulting, Finance, FMCGs, Research, Management and Education.

As compared to the last year, this year saw 31% increase of jobs in the core sector and 82% increase in research-based jobs. Interestingly, there was a surge in the number of startups hiring with about twice the number of startups coming this year over the previous one.
