The Department of Materials Science and Engineering at IIT Kanpur invites applications for the position of Project Postdoctoral Fellow in CALPHAD-based ICME Design of Steels.

About the Position

The selected candidate will work on research focused on Accelerated Development of Next Generation High Strength High Performance Steels using the Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) approach, with applications in naval systems. The selected candidate will be working in IIT Kanpur and IIT Madras for carrying out the research.

Essential Qualifications

Applicants must have:

• PhD in Metallurgical Engineering with Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Metallurgical Engineering as well
• Excellent academic credentials and research experience
• Strong fundamentals in:
• Computational Metallurgical Thermodynamics
• Data-Driven Modelling of Materials
• Physical Metallurgy of Steels
• Demonstrated knowledge of:
• CALPHAD Modelling
• Alloy development
• Programming in C++ and/or Python
• Modeling tools such as Thermo-Calc and DICTRA
• Familiarity with AI/ML approaches relevant to steels

Preferred Qualifications

Candidates with one or more of the following will be given preference:

• Prior experience in CALPHAD modelling using Thermo-Calc software
• Experience in physics-driven machine learning or scientific machine learning
• Exposure to alloy development using ICME approach

Nature of Appointment

• Initial appointment for one year
• Extendable based on satisfactory performance and project requirements
• Position is purely temporary and contractual

Pay-scale: 60000-5000-85000. Actual pay will be based on the skills and experience of the candidate.
