Vacancy for Two Senior Project Mechanic

Applications are invited for temporary & contractual post of Senior Project Mechanic under the project titled “Aerosol Transport Behaviour Experiments at National Aerosol Facility in Context of Nuclear Reactor Accidents” at NAF, IIT Kanpur.

Minimum Qualification: 3 years Engg. Diploma Or High School+ ITI+ 5 years of relevant experience

Areas of Educational Qualification: Mechanical/Electrical/Instrumentation/Electronics Engineering or a closely related field.

Desirable Experience:

  1. Valve Operation and Maintenance:
    • Knowledge of different types of valves (ball, gate, butterfly, solenoid) and their applications.
    • Experience in installing, operating, and maintaining valves.
    • Skills in diagnosing and repairing valve malfunctions.
  2. Pressure Measurement and Control:
    • Familiarity with different types of pressure measurement instruments (manometers, transducers, gauges).
    • Experience in calibrating and maintaining pressure measurement devices.
    • Ability to integrate pressure sensors into control systems for real-time monitoring and control.
  3. Temperature Detection and Control:
    • Proficiency in using and calibrating temperature sensors such as thermocouples, RTDs, and infrared sensors.
    • Experience in setting up and troubleshooting temperature control systems.
    • Knowledge of data acquisition systems and software used for temperature monitoring.
  4. Compressor Systems:
    • Experience in operating various types of compressors (reciprocating, rotary, centrifugal).
    • Ability to perform regular maintenance, troubleshoot issues, and replace components as needed.
    • Understanding of the principles of compressed air and gas systems.
  5. Boiler Operation and Maintenance:
    • Proficiency in starting, operating, and shutting down boilers.
    • Experience in performing routine maintenance and inspections.
    • Familiarity with safety protocols and emergency procedures related to boiler operations.
  6. Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs):
    • Proficiency in programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining PLC systems.
    • Experience with various PLC brands (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Schneider Electric).
    • Ability to integrate PLCs with other control systems and instruments.
  7. Piping Systems:
    • Knowledge of different piping materials and fittings.
    • Experience in reading and interpreting piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
    • Skills in assembling, maintaining, and troubleshooting piping systems.
  8. Integrated Systems Operation:
    • Hands-on experience with integrated systems involving boilers, compressors, and other instrumentation.
    • Experience in coordinating the operation of multiple systems to ensure smooth and efficient lab operations.
  9. Safety and Compliance:
    • In-depth knowledge of safety standards and regulations applicable to lab environments.
    • Experience conducting safety audits and implementing corrective actions

Salary: INR 13000-1100-32800 per month (Salary shall be commensurate with experience and skills)

Nature of position: Temporary / Contractual

Number of positions: Two; (One vacancy is for Mechanical & allied trades and one vacancy is for Instrumentation & allied trades)

Term of Appointment: The appointment will be purely on temporary and contractual basis initially for a period of one year or till the end of the project, whichever is earlier.

Nature of Work: 

The National Aerosol Facility (NAF) at IIT Kanpur - in collaboration with Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) under Department of Atomic Energy (DAE)- is a state-of-the-art, multi-purpose research centre dedicated to study aerosol behaviour under conditions simulating severe nuclear reactor accidents. The Sr. Project Mechanic will assist in the management and maintenance of the facility. He or she will be in charge of maintaining the laboratory and all of the equipment, including the compressor, boiler, PLCs, and aerosol instruments like the PDPA, SMPS, and OPS.
