Applications are invited for a position of Project Engineer for one year (extendable based on performance) in the DST-sponsored project titled "Map Generalization – Modelling and Automatic Derivation of Multiple Representations of Geographical Features for Multiscale Mapping" at the National Centre for Geodesy / Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Kanpur.
Minimum qualification:
M.Tech (Geoinformatics / Civil / Computer Science / Information Technology / Electronics),
Or
B.Tech (Geoinformatics / Civil / Computer Science / Information Technology / Electronics) + 3 years of relevant experience.
Desirable:
- Good understanding of Cartography, GIS, and Topographic Mapping
- Experience in GIS programming, QGIS software, and PostgreSQL + PostGIS
- Proficient in Python and Java programming languages
- Basic understanding of Unified Modelling Language (UML) and GitHub
- Basic knowledge of coordinate geometry and vector algebra
Nature of the work:
- Designing, developing, and implementing map generalization algorithms in Python
- Developing QGIS toolbox for generalizing geographical features
- Analysis of data and results
- Drafting manuscripts
Number of positions: One
Term of appointment: The initial appointment will be for one year and may be extended based on performance.
Salary: Rs. 57,600 + 18% HRA
