Design and Fabrication of Micro-channels for Micro-reactors

This project is being mentored by Prof. J Ramkumar of Mechanical Engineering Department. In this proposal we wish to design, develop and fabricate a novel set ECM set up for fabricating the micro channels of diameters < than 500 microns which can be used for several applications like micro reactors, microfludics etc. Laser and EDM process can used to manufacture channels from 500 microns to 10 microns but these processes has in-built process deficiency of creating heat affected zone and a restriction of aspect ratio for laser and EDM is the tool wear. ECM is the possible alternative process which does not have any of the process defects and can produce high aspect ratio channels. Considering the above facts the proposed area of research work will be aimed towards achieving multiple micro channels with highest tolerance on the given material.
