INTRODUCTION:

So many years have gone by and so many students have come, studied and left the institute without giving a thought to the environment they are living in. Our campus is an example of beauty and cleanliness to the surrounding ambience of the city. Even then there are large plots of land which are left as garbage dumps or wasteland. This tarnishes the image our campus presents to visitors and deprives us of the serene environment so nurturing to academic needs.

Whether these waste lands could be usefully developed -is the question our group addressed. The idea of a Japanese garden to use large amounts of land with minimum cost incurred was appealing.

Oriental gardens have a blend of nature and environment with architecture. By making use of organic materials like trees, plants, grass and the relief already existing in the plot, the Japanese garden converts land to a peaceful resort after a hard days work.

We have landscaped the wasteland next to the petrol-bunk beside the proposed site for the faculty club. This plot was chosen keeping in mind the following points:

1. Central place near to the residential areas.

2. Close to the gate and a site situated on the main road of I.I.T. ,thus giving a positive image of our campus to visitors and making it more accessible to them.

3. Close also to the shopping center which is often frequented by people.

While landscaping this site we kept in mind the following:

1. The need for a recreationanal park different from others in the campus (such as the nursery) .

2. The need for a cafe for informal interaction of the students and faculty after the institute hours.

3. A unique park which invites visitors.

4. A park composed of elements giving a completely natural effect.

5. Distribution of the elements in order to give maximum effect of space.

6. Isolation of different areas of the park to retain their particular ambience all the while preserving the harmony of the park as a whole.

7. Efficient utilization of color in giving a pleasing view both from the cafe and

 within the park .

In our model ,the scale chosen is 1cm is equivalent to 7ft. The plot area is about 500ft by 330ft. The cafe and trees are all in this proportion. The waterfall is slightly small keeping in mind the scarcity of water and the pumping costs for an artificial waterfall.
