Introduction:

"Necessary noise is the most cruel absence of care", said Florence Nightingale. " it is our children upon whom this cruelty is inflicted, in its worst form. This be done for the "country's future" is to provide it with a healthy learning It the schools and colleges where it is preparing itself for tomorrow. It would be advisable to ensure a noise-free environment for a well-educated future of the country.

CONCLUSION

Having made suggestions to minimize the problem of noise-pollution in existing schools, we would like to emphasize the need to follow some basic principles of noise- abatement while planning schools. Some of the more important ones among these are as listed below:

Location of school away from busy roads, especially highways, is the most important principle to be followed while planning a school.

Basic site-planning principles, as suggested by the ideal site plan (see figure).

Landscaping, that is, plantation of trees, erection of barriers, etc., within the school compound to minimize the noise reaching the classrooms.

Orientation of classrooms should be done in such a manner that all doors and windo open away from the source of noise.

Use of acoustically absorbent material both within and outside the classrooms to absorb any noise escaping the above measures.
