Introduction:

Pollution level in Indian Cities

In order to get a clear picture of the level of pollution in Kanpur city it would have been most optimum if the results for Ambient Air survey would have been available. But, as we came to know from the CPC, Kanpur that unfortunately there has been no such survey made iri Kanpur in the past.

So, we thought that maybe we can quote the results from some other city comparable to Kanpur and then drawing an analogy we can get a fair idea of the Ambient Air Quality in Kanpur city. We chose Lucknow city for the reason that Ambient Air data from recent surveys was available. Also Tempos have stopped plying in many parts of the city and surveys have been done before and after the tempos have stopped plying. Hence, a clear picture of the pollution due to Tempos alone can be obtained to a high degree of reliability .

It is worth mentioning that Tempos had stopped plying in the months of February to March, 1999.

CONCLUSION:

The city air is degrading by the day and the culprits are vehicles, industries and even daily households. There is a need that the people be educated about the environment and they should be made aware that if the pollution keeps on increasing at the same rate then soon we will not be able to even breath properly and fresh clean air will be a dream. Either take care of your environment or lose it forever.
