Piedmont zone developed adjacent to the Himalayan foothills define the northern limit of the Gangetic plains. Typical landforms in this region include gravelly deposits (Bhabar) and plains (Tarai). Several examples of well-developed piedmont zones have been described from Doon valley (Garhwal Himalaya) and Nainital area (Kumaon Himalaya) in Uttranchal State, northern India.
