The above sample menu is based on the general intake of food items prevalent in various regions of India e.g. in East, West, North and South.

This sample menu provides you with the diet plan based upon calorie consumption per day. With the help of these sample menus, you can plan your meals. The sample menus are based on the principle of food exchanges (eg. Cereal Exchange, Vegetable Exchange, Fat Exchange etc.) Each exchange list has various food items of approximately same calorific value. Thus one item of a particular exchange list can be substituted for any other item in the same list. Let's take an example from sample menu. At pre breakfast, you can have 4 Marie biscuits and 2 Monaco biscuits from List-1, cereal exchange; that provide 100 calories. But you can add variation to your diet plan, by choosing any other food item from List-1, cereal exchange of 100 calories. But you can add variation to your diet plan, by choosing any other food item from List-1, cereal exchange of 100 calories only. So instead of having 4 Marie biscuits and 2 Monaco biscuits you may have either 2 slices of bread. Thereby providing flexibility to your diet and yet take care the daily calorie intake remains within the lmit advised by your Doctor.

The food list on this sheet is not complete. They are just a start. Don't let your choices be limited by shortage of information. Take the help of your Doctor or Dietician to plan up the meal plane that is suitable to you.

Healthy eating for people with diabetes

Eating the right food is one of the most basic and important diabetes care tools. Eating right can help control blood sugar. And good control protects your long-term health.

This pre-planned menu sheet is a good way to start. Use it to begin learning about diabetes meal planning and as a temporary guide to what to eat. But keep in mind that every person with diabetes should have a personal meal plane. A Doctor/Diabetes Educator/Dietician can work with you to develop the plan that best meets your needs. A personalized plan will give you more freedom and choices than this temporary diet.
