CAPSTONE PROJECT
MBA IIT KANPUR

A two-semester, 36 credit part of the MBA curriculum at IIT Kanpur, is a unique student industry engagement program where students work with an organization to solve real world business problems, under the guidance of a project mentor from the institute and the organization.

The 2-year MBA program at IIT Kanpur aims to create business leaders and entrepreneurs by leveraging its strengths in technology, management and social sciences. The MBA program at IIT Kanpur is designed to offer an optimal mix of various domain knowledge like- Analytics, Marketing, Finance, HR, Operations and IT/Consulting

Capstone project in IITK is created with the motto: 70% learning comes from hands on the job experience. Industry needs leaders who have an eye on technological developments and can utilize them with business analytical insight in this data driven world.

Capstone project is designed keeping these two facts in mind and using this opportunity to solve business problems, help develop new products and services making a collaborative effort towards creating well equipped leaders and delivering business value at the same time. The Capstone Project has been implemented after rigorous feedback from industry, faculty and our alumni.

The broad objectives of the Capstone project are:

  • To inculcate the understanding of sustainability and innovation to bring a student in tune with the changing times and future requirements
  • Enable a student to not only implement function specific techniques and knowledge, but also to learn the integrative skills where knowledge across specific streams can be applied to a real-life problem
  • Enable companies to benefit from the insights and solutions provided by the students while working on Capstone project

It provides scope for short term and long term engagement based on the requirement of the project or the problem statement. Engagement may be an extension of an internship program or an independent live project. This project runs simultaneous to the curriculum and creates an environment that engages, motivates, and inspires a student to learn more as students can create something vibrant, engaging, and meaningful because they have chosen their area of interest, put their personal touch on it and as a result it bridges the gap between the academic material and what they have created. They then retain the information better because they have designed something from a real-world experience.

Solution to your business problem statement is one step away, just fill and submit the form here and we will get back to you.

Capstone Project generally progresses in one of the three avenues:

  • Project starts with the selection of problem statements in discussion with industry and organization and based on student’s competence.
  • There can also be a continuation of problem statement adopted during the summer program, if mutually agreed with the organization or as a problem of technical interest as a by-project with fresh start which may lead to a substantial work towards a solution of the problem statement
  • Student chooses the ideation and problem statement and progress with it while in consultation with faculty and industry mentors.

The timeline for the two semesters is followed as:

Two semester programs starting in August with four evaluations by IITK faculty mentors and two report submissions at the end of each semester.
