ABSTRACTThe lecture will begin with a description of the mechanism by which industrial research projects and consultancies are assigned to UICT. For this partnership activity, "the core purpose and the core values" of the institution will be explained. The objective of education/training of students is given utmost importance, which tries to maintain a balance between the basics of Chemical Engineering and the needs of the nation. This synergy will be illustrated through a successful case study. Download Presentation (18.9 MB, ZIP) About the Distinguished SpeakerProf. Jyeshtharaj Bhalchandra Joshi is an eminent chemical engineer who has made seminal contributions to chemical engineering, both in basic research as well as in industrial R&D. He is currently the Director of the University Institute of Chemical Technology (formerly UDCT), Mumbai. He received his bachelors and PhD degrees from the same institute in 1971 and 1977, respectively. Subsequently, he joined the faculty of UICT. His research interests are in the areas of multiphase reactors, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), computer-aided process design and effluent treatment. He has also pioneered the application of CFD research in chemical engineering design. He has supervised more than 40 PhD students, and has authored over 250 publications. His contributions have been recognized by several awards and honors, including the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Engineering Sciences in 1991, the Herdillia Award of the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers for excellence in basic research in chemical engineering in 1989, and the Vishwakarma medal awarded by INSA. He is a Fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi, and the Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore. He also serves on the editorial boards of the journals `Reviews in Chemical Engineering' and 'Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering'.
