Deformation and Fracture of Materials
Dr. S. Basu, Department of Mechanical Engineering
Our work focusses on the modelling of deformation and fracture of a variety of materials including polymers, metals and carbon nanotubes. We are particuarly interested in formulating and perfecting mathematical models that describe the dependence of deformation and fracture behaviour under a variety of mechanical and other stimuli to specific and relevant microstructural features. To this end, we use a host of computational, theoretical and experimental means that help us establish these connections and make constitutive modelling less of a glorified parameter determination exercise.
