Calibration of WLAN Cards
Set up:
Variable Attenuator:
We used a combination of 4 attenuators :-
70 dB attenuator (steps of 10 dB)
11 dB attenuator (steps of 1 dB)
32 dB fixed attenuator
9 dB fixed attenuator
Process:
All of these attenuators were first calibrated with the help of "Network Analyzer". All the components used such as Co-axial cable, RPTNC to N connector, N(Female) to N(Female) connectors were also first calibrated with "Network Analyzer".
Now "Access Point" was set up to deliver 1 mw (0 dBm) & then "Total attenuation Vs "%" reading was recorded. Same was repeated for different power settings of AP namely 5 mw (7 dBm), 20 mw (13 dBm), 30 mW (15 dBm), 50 mw (17 dBm) & 100 mw (20 dBm).
The above experiment was done for ORINOCO, WaveLAN, & CISCO cards.
