Applications are invited for Project Scientist position open for candidates with P.hd in Mechanical, Chemical, Aerospace or Materials Engineering or Computational Physics/Chemistry/Biology with experience in Molecular Modelling, for a project funded by the Boeing Co., USA, which is being executed jointly by the Mechanical Engineering and Chemistry Departments of Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. The project involves performing extensive large scale ab-initio, Molecular Dynamics computations on certain high performance polymers with a view to understanding their mechanical properties. The research groups involved in the project have excellent computational facilities for carrying out these computations. Moreover, both groups have extensive research experience in relevant areas.
Qualifications: P.hd in Mechanical, Chemical, Aerospace or Materials Engineering or Computational Physics/Chemistry/Biology.
Desirable Experience: Background in Computational Chemistry, Physics, Material Science or Engineering with experience in performing large scale MD and/or ab-initio calculations. It will help if the candidate also has a background in Polymer Physics. The candidate will be expected to coordinate between the groups and function in an inter-disciplinary environment. Candidate should preferably have experience in Computational Materials Science, Computational Chemistry, with knowledge of one or more atomistic simulation techniques.
Salary: INR. 22000-2200-44000.
The post is purely temporary, and the duration of appointment will be till 30.09.2019 with the possibility of further extension based on performance. Interested candidates must apply by email to Dr Sumit Basu (sbasu@iitk.ac.in), Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Kanpur or Dr Nisanth Nair (nnair@iitk.ac.in), Department of Chemistry, IIT Kanpur within 15 days from the date on which this advertisement is uploaded. They should enclose a detailed CV and indicate when they will be available for appointment. Hard copies of applications may also be sent to
