Applications are invited for position of Senior Project Associate to work on a DST project (DST/ME/2016/291) titled “Numerical analysis and optimization of thermal-fluid systems using surrogate based optimization techniques” at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, IIT Kanpur. The position is available immediately, and will be for a period of one year. Depending upon the performance of candidate, the contract can be renewed for additional one year.
About the Project:The development of an efficient thermal-fluid system relies on the underlying physics of the flow, and the potential to fully exploit it. However, lack of understanding may result in inefficient and sub-optimal designs. Design optimization based on computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis has become a reliable tool for heat and mass transfer applications due to rapid increase in computer power. The current project aims to study thermal-fluid systems using numerical simulations, and optimization using surrogate based techniques. Of particular interest will be design of micromixers for Lab –on – chip applications, and research related to Gas turbine cooling applications. ANSYS-CFX/ FLUENT will be used for numerical analysis. MATLAB will be used to perform optimization.
Eligibility: M. Tech in Mechanical/ Chemical Engineering + 1 year experience and specialization in Thermal and Fluids Engineering OR
B. Tech/ B.E. in Mechanical Engineering with 1 + experience of working in academic or research institutes and valid GATE score.
*Candidate should have experience in CFD simulations (in-house codes/ Commercial Packages)
Salary Range: 18,000-1800-36000
