About

Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur offers campus-wide access to Foxit PDF Editor for Education, providing licenses to Faculty and Students. This powerful productivity tool allows users to open, view, edit, and manage PDF documents, facilitating a wide range of document-related tasks crucial for academic and administrative work in a digital environment.

With this digital document editing tool, you can:

  • Annotate, highlight, add comments to digital documents just like on paper.

  • Convert scanned textbook files editable and text-searchable with OCR and study like you would with a physical textbook.

  • Use AI assistant to summarize, translate, rewrite, extract key points, or answer specific questions.

  • Use Foxit Workspace to create a project, upload multiple documents, and ask AI to synthesize information, generate reports, or create diagrams.

Those interested must have M365/Office 365 account and fill out the online form for Foxit PDF Editor registration available here (Use VPN, If outside the IIT Kanpur network). The user will receive an email for account activation from Foxit Software with the subject "Foxit PDF Editor - IIT Kanpur".

System Requirements

  • OS: Windows 10, Windows 11 (32-bit / 64-bit)
  • Processor: 1.3 GHz or faster processor
  • RAM: 512 MB RAM (Recommended: 1 GB RAM or greater)
  • Disk Space: 1 GB of available hard drive space
  • Resolution: 1024x768 screen resolution

Foxit PDF Editor can be used across the three platforms: Windows, macOS, and Foxit PDF Editor Cloud.

Installation

  1. Download the the software as required and install it.
  2. After successful installation, open Foxit PDF Editor and click sign in.

  4. Restart the Foxit PDF Editor and it is ready for use.

Foxit AI Features

1. Foxit PDF AI Assistant (In-App)

The embedded AI assistant works directly on an open document to summarize, translate, rewrite, extract key points, or answer specific questions.

Desktop (Foxit PDF Editor for Windows & Mac):

  1. Open Foxit PDF Editor and sign in using your M365 account via SSO link.
  2. Open any PDF file.
  3. Click the Foxit AI floating widget on the document canvas or select the AI Assistant tab from the ribbon.
  4. Enter prompts in the chat panel to interact with the document.

Web & Cloud (Foxit PDF Editor Cloud):

  • Open your PDF in Foxit Cloud and click the AI Assistant icon on the right sidebar.
2. Foxit Workspace (Multi-Document Project Hub)

Foxit Workspace is designed for cross-document analysis, report synthesis, diagram creation, and multi-file workflows (supporting up to 100 documents per project).

Access via Web Browser:

  1. Go directly to Foxit Workspace (or via the Foxit AI portal).
  2. Sign in with your M365 account using SSO link.

Access via Dedicated Desktop App:

  • Download and install the standalone Foxit Workspace app for Windows or macOS from Foxit's AI portal.

Access directly from Foxit PDF Editor Desktop:

  • Click the Workspace icon located in the upper-right toolbar or the AI Ribbon within Foxit PDF Editor to open the environment directly.

Terms of Use

  • Device Limit: Each account can be used on up to four devices simultaneously

  • Sign-In Requirement: Use your IIT Kanpur email account (ie: [user]@iitk.ac.in)
