Advantages
- Exchange online provides you with a seamless integration of your mailbox with your calendar, Todo, tasks, Teams, OneDrive and SharePoint over multiple devices and multiple ways.
- You get more ways to collaborate with colleagues and students who are on Exchange online with their iitk.ac.in mailbox
- It is easier to chat one to one, or form a channel or class with your colleagues, staff and students. This makes having a chat or online meeting one to one or with an entire channel or class at one go.
- Your earlier mail on the on-premises mail service can also be moved to exchange online, if you so desire.
- As of now, the mailbox size on Exchange online can be up to 50 GB
Disadvantages
- You cannot send mails to lists (eg., acadstaff, faculty etc) and aliases, for example mails to class aliases using exchange online. You will have to send them from your IITK webmail.
Important Note
Please note that your IITK webmail remains alive even when you transition to exchange online. After the transition, your incoming mails are redirected to exchange online. You can always use IITK webmail to send mails to lists and aliases and/or reply to earlier emails on the mailbox.
