Workshop on Wireless Communication Technologies for the Next Decade

Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur

16 August 2025

About

Next generation wireless networks are expected to achieve astronomically high data rates, exceptionally low end-to-end delays, ultrahigh reliability coupled with high energy efficiency. Future networks are expected to be based on the space-air-ground integrated network (SAGIN) paradigm, with an objective of achieving extremely broad coverage and seamless connectivity. Such networks will enable space, airborne, ground, and underwater connectivity, such as in flights, ships, or vehicles on land. Artificial intelligence and Machine Learning (AIML) allows these networks to learn and adapt, in order to support diverse services without human intervention. In tune with these developments, this workshop will organize distinguished lectures by eminent experts in cutting-edge wireless technologies. Distinguished speakers from industry, government funded research labs and academia will deliver invited talks. The workshop will also feature a panel discussion by faculty members from IITK working at the intersection of AI, Wireless and Cybersecurity.

Prof Ajit Chaturvedi's fundamental research in the area of communication systems, particularly to waveform shaping and sequence design, are pioneering and continue to attract the attention and citations of the global research community. As a result of this strong foundation, IIT Kanpur today boasts of one of the strongest groups in communication among all the IITs. A passionate teacher, he was conferred the Distinguished Teacher Award of IIT Kanpur and also the INSA Teachers' award. UG and PG students of the EE department have long admired his teaching of several fundamental courses in the area of Communications. It is a matter of great pride for the institute that several of them are now globally recognised, eminent researchers and industry leaders. Further, some of his students are distinguished or young alumnus awardees of IIT Kanpur. He has contributed immensely to IIT Kanpur in several important leadership roles, such as the Head of the Electrical Engineering Department, Dean of Research & Development and Deputy Director. Several initiatives taken by him have helped in shaping the policies and reputation of IIT Kanpur. Prof. Ajit Chaturvedi has the distinction of serving as the Director of IIT Roorkee, IIT Mandi and IIAS Shimla, thus shaping the legacies of these three premier national institutions. He has recently been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University. To honour the stellar contributions of Prof Ajit Chaturvedi to the EE Department, Institute, as a researcher, a teacher, and an academic-administrator, this workshop will also comprise of a session to honour the contributions of Prof Ajit Chaturvedi on the occasion of his 60th birthday
