Donor Scholarships

The Institute gives Donor Scholarships to meritorious and needy students. The details of the various Donor Scholarships available for students and the criteria used for selection are listed in the following table. In addition to the criteria mentioned in the table below, the following conditions are applied while deciding the various Donor Scholarships. These criteria and conditions were approved in the 487th (2015-16/8th) meeting of Academic Senate held on 23-24 May 2016, 489th (2015-16/10th) meeting of Academic Senate held on 15 July 2016, 490th (2016-17/1st) meeting of Academic Senate held on 30 August 2016, or earlier meetings.

  1. A student should have a CPI ≥ 6.0 and Total Family Annual Income (TFAI) < (TFAI_norm). The TFAI_norm is 6.0 lacs currently. After the first round of Donor Scholarships have been decided, the means criteria may be relaxed to (1.5*TFAI_norm). If there are donor scholarships still un-awarded, the following criteria may be used in awarding more donor scholarships.

  2. A donor scholarships meant for students of a particular year in specific department(s), may be opened for other students in the following order: (i) students across all years within the same department(s), (ii) students of the particular year across all departments, and (iii) students across all years across all departments.

  3. A donor scholarships meant for students of all years in a specific department may be opened for other students across all years across all departments.

  4. If a donor scholarship goes un-awarded in an academic year, the scholarship amount available in the next academic year is double of the original amount. Therefore, this scholarship may be awarded in the next academic year to two students, if available, using prevailing guidelines.

  5. The modifications above shall be applied subject to approval from the donor(s). Please note that the above criteria/conditions are referred to as MCM-Donor criteria in the table below.

ANURAG BARTARIA MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

To be awarded to a UG student of any year in the MSE department in 4-year or 5-year program, who has the minimum TFAI among all eligible applicants, and who is not a recipient of any other scholarship.

ARAKERE AND KAREN VASUDEV SCHOLARSHIP

To be awarded to a 3rd year UG student (in 4-yr or 5-yr program) of Chemical Engineering department based on the highest CPI at the end of first two years.

AVIATION DEVELOPMENT AWARDS

To be awarded to a 3rd year UG student in 4-year or 5-year program of AE department. Names to be recommended by Head, AE. Two awards.

BABU RAM JAIN AND MRS. SHANTI JAIN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

To be awarded to a 1st year UG student of any engineering department based on the lowest TFAI. The student should not be getting any other scholarship.

BALAJIT & NIRMAL DHINDSA SCHOLARSHIP

One award to a 1st year UG student of BSBE department and one award to a 2nd year UG student of BSBE department based on the highest CPI. No limit on TFAI. Preference to be given to girl students. Names to be recommended by BSBE department. Two awards.

BGM KUMAR FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIPS
(THREE SCHOLARSHIPS)

The following eligibility/selection criteria shall apply for awarding the three scholarships:

An undergraduate (UG) student of any department or year is eligible,

The Total Family Annual Income of the student from all sources shall be less than 1.5 lacs,

A student who qualifies for free-tuition will NOT be eligible for these scholarships, and

Preference shall to be given to girl students.

To be awarded to a UG student in 4-year or 5-year program of any department based on MCM-Donor criteria and involvement in community services.

To be awarded to a 2nd year UG girl student in the BS program of the Mathematics & Statistics department based on the highest CPI at the end of 1st year including summer. The scholarship to be decided after the branch changes have been carried out in the beginning of 3rd semester.

To be awarded to a UG student in 4-year or 5-year program of any department based on MCM-Donor criteria.

To be awarded to a UG student in 4-year or 5-year program of any department based on MCM-Donor criteria.

CLASS OF 1984 SCHOLARSHIP

To be awarded to UG students in 4-year or 5-year program based on MCM-Donor criteria and involvement in extra-curricular activities. Four scholarships, one each for each batch (i.e. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year students). Students in the fifth year of 5-year programs are not eligible to receive the scholarship. To be decided by an SSPC appointed committee. Applicants may be interviewed, if needed. A student selected in any year continues to get the scholarship unless s/he fails to meet any of the MCM-Donor criteria, in which case the scholarship may be given to the next deserving student in the same batch.

To be awarded to a 3rd year UG student in 4-year or 5-year program of CSE department based on MCM-Donor criteria. CPI at the end of 2nd year is to be used.

To be awarded to UG students in 4-year or 5-year program of CE department based purely on merit. Eight scholarships, 2 each for 1st year, 2nd year, 3rd year, and 4th year batches. CPI at the end of previous year to be used. For the 1st year students, CPI at the end of 1st semester may be used.

KINRA SCHOLARSHIP

To be awarded to a 1st year UG student of ME department based on MCM-Donor criteria. If the scholarship holder changes the branch of study from ME to some other discipline, s/he will no longer be eligible for the scholarship. CPI of the scholarship holder must not fall below 6.5. If the CPI falls below 6.5, the scholarship may be awarded to the next deserving student in the same batch.

SENGUPTA GRANT

The grant shall be for Rs. 3,500/- per month (for 10 months) for supporting contingency expenses for equipment, books, and miscellaneous items for carrying out research based on the following criteria/conditions:

M.Tech. students of Civil Engineering Department with specialization in Structural Engineering are eligible.

The scholarship will be given to a student at the start of 2nd year of his/her M. Tech. program.

The student must fulfill MCM criteria of IIT Kanpur. For selection, means-centric MCM ranking procedure is to be used.

CLASS OF 1968 CREATIVE RESEARCH PROPOSAL PRIZE

This prize is for the best creative research proposal.

One prize will be given to a 4th year undergraduate student, and one will be given to a 2nd year postgraduate student of any discipline or program.

For the UG prize, any fourth year UG student, or a group of UG students doing a UGP/BTP project are eligible for consideration.

For PG students, only M.Tech/MS(R)/MBA/M.Des./Ph.D./ MSc.- Ph.D. Dual Degree are eligible for consideration.

Departments to solicit proposals, setup a committee for evaluating those proposals, and make one recommendation to the SSPC. Departments are expected to make their recommendations supported with a committee report by the end of the 7th semester for UG students, and by the end of the 3rd semester for PG students. The SSPC may appoint a committee to select the winner. SSPC may interview the candidates, as needed.

CLASS OF 1968 SCHOLARSHIP

The scholarships will be given to 1st year UG students from any discipline based on means, whose total annual family income is between Rs. 1.0 lakh to Rs. 5.0 lakhs. Eligible students will be ranked as per total annual parental income, and students with the least total annual parental income (amongst the category of students whose total annual parental income is between Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 5 lakhs), will be awarded the scholarship. In case of multiple students having the same annual parental income, the scholarship will be given to the student having the higher AIR.

To be awarded to a 1st or 2nd year undergraduate student of CSE or CHE Deptt. Based on MCM-Donor criteria. The scholarship would be open to 2nd year students only if no one was found eligible in the 1st year batch.

PROF. SANJEEV K. AGGARWAL SCHOLARSHIP

Open to students in all years of B.Tech. program of Computer Science & Engineering. For students of the first year eligibility criteria to be followed is AIR and for students in 3rd semester and above, eligibility to be based on meritorious performance and CPI > 6.0. First preference is given to students with family income <5 lakhs per annum.

MRS. RATNA KAUSHIK AND DR. BHOOSAN LAL SCHOLARSHIP
  1. The scholarship will be given to any 1st year UG student, preferably a B.Tech student, of any discipline or program whose annual parental income less than Rs. 1lakh.Eligible students will be ranked as per total annual parental income, and the student with the least total annual parental income (amongst the category of students whose total annual parental income less than Rs. 1 lakh), will be awarded the scholarship. In case of multiple students having the same annual parental income, the scholarship will be given to the student having the higher AIR.
  2. The scholarship will continue for all four years of his/her academic tenure. Continuation of the scholarships from the second year and beyond will be based on:

  1.  The scholarships will be given to three 1st year UG girl students from any discipline based on means, whose total annual family income is between Rs. 1.0 lakh to Rs. 5.0 lakhs. Eligible students will be ranked as per total annual parental income, and three students with the least total annual parental income (amongst the category of students whose total annual parental income is between Rs. 1 lakh and Rs. 5 lakhs), will be awarded the scholarship.
