FORMULA SAE ELECTRIC

About the Competition

Formula Student Electric is an initiative taken up by Formula SAE towards a cleaner future. It aims to acquaint students of the concepts relating to the electric drive which are replacing the century-old fuel-based system, so that they may contribute towards the industrial requirement of EV technology. As per the orders issued by various countries to bring in at least 30% Electric Vehicles in upcoming 8-10 years, it has now become an urge to foster knowledge amongst the current generation regarding this technology. We aim to participate in Formula Bharat 2021 in the EV category. The events of Formula Electric are similar to Formula Student (Combustion) with addition of rain test and tilt test. Many teams have started shifting to electric from combustion.

About the Competition

Formula SAE is an international student design competition sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers. The program simulates real-world engineering design projects and related challenges with the goal of developing and building a student Formula-style race car. Teams from countries around the world compete in static and dynamic events. The concept behind Formula SAE is that a fictional manufacturing company has contracted a student design team to develop a student Formula-Style Race Car. The Prototype Race Car is to be evaluated for its potential as a production item. The target marketing group for the race car is the non-professional weekend autocross racer. Each student team designs, builds and tests a prototype based on a series of rules, whose purpose is both ensuring on-track safety (the cars are driven by the students themselves) and promoting clever problem solving. Teams taking part in Formula SAE are judged in a series of static and dynamic events. Static events include things like business presentation engineering design and cost, sustainability and technical inspection. The teams who pass all the static events are then allowed to participate in the dynamic events where they are scored based on how well their vehicle performs in various tasks. Therefore, Formula SAE encompasses all aspects of a business including research, design, manufacturing, testing, developing, marketing, management, and fundraising. The volunteers for the design judging include some of the racing industry's most prominent engineers and consultants including the late Carroll Smith, Bill Mitchell, Doug Milliken, Claude Rouelle, Jack Auld, John LePlante, Ron Tauranac, and Bryan Kubala.
BAJA

About the Competition

The BAJA SAE design competition encourages teams of students from universities all over the world to design and build a single-seat, all terrain sporting vehicle that is to be a prototype for a reliable, maintainable, ergonomic, economic production vehicle that serves a recreational user market and is fun to drive. It should be able to traverse rough terrain without damage. The event is just not building a race car but also about learning team management and teamwork. The event includes static events as well as dynamic events. In the static events, teams present their Design report, Cost report and a Business & sales presentation wherein they sell their prototype for mass production. It is held in US, India, Brazil, South Africa and Korea. In India, the event is organized by SAE India. The three days event test the vehicle for the sound engineering practices that have gone into it, the agility of the vehicle in terms of gradability, speed, acceleration, manoeuvrability characteristics and finally its ability to endure that back breaking durability test. A similar event is organised by SplitSecond Engineering and Performance Pvt. Ltd which is an engineering, motorsports and automotive development company and focuses on providing cutting edge solutions to racing, automotive and other engineering applications. Similarly, Mega ATV Championship is an off-terrain ATV/Dune Buggy/ Mini BAJA racing competition based on Real life challenges.
SHELL ECO

About the Competition

Shell Eco-marathon is a competition for High School and University Student Teams around the world providing a collaborative platform to get hands-on experience in achieving ultra-energy-efficiency. There are Challenger Events for first-time teams, and Regional Events for qualified teams. Around the world the programme inspires thousands of students to work collaboratively to put their theories of energy-efficiency to the test, using cutting-edge technology, critical thinking, and innovative ideas. There are two vehicle classes teams can choose to design: Urban-Cncept and Prototype. We are designing a prototype in battery-electric energy category. Building an energy-efficient vehicle is only half the journey. Teams must also complete several design phases. Technical inspection is the final milestone before gaining access to the track. Here, the Shell Eco-marathon Technical Team probes critical aspects of each vehicle while inspecting safety features and adherence to the Shell Eco-marathon Official Rules. The stakes are high for teams who have designed and built their vehicles as part of their studies, when the results of technical inspection can mean pass or fail for their University courses.
EFFI-CYCLE
Efficycle15

About the Competition

Efficycle is an intercollegiate design competition for undergraduate and graduate students where teams have to design and fabricate an energy efficient entirely human powered three-wheeled vehicle. The vehicle would be capable to be driven simultaneously as well as alternatively by two drivers and must be aerodynamic, highly engineered and ergonomically designed. The design should be commercially viable as a product and should be attractive to the consumers in terms of its visual appearance, performance, reliability and ease of operation.
