5th September is the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was the first vice-president and the second president of India and an excellent educator, and hence rightfully celebrated as Teachers’ Day.

The Teachers' Day function is to celebrate and felicitate our distinguished colleagues who have excelled as teachers and also those who have contributed immensely over their long and distinguished career here at IIT Kanpur to help build our Institution.

Chief Guest

Professor Surendra Prasad received his education at IIT Kharagpur and IIT Delhi. He has served IIT Delhi for more than four decades, having held a number of academic and administrative responsibilities, including its Director for 6 years between 2005 and 2011. He is an eminent educationist and Researcher and has received numerous recognitions for teaching and research, including the Vikram Sarabhai Research Award, the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Engineering Sciences, the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Systems Society of India, among others. He is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, the Indian National Science Academy, and has been a member of the Governing Body of CSIR and CSIR Society, Govt. of India, and numerous boards of IITs, NITs. He was the honorary Chairman of the National Board of Accreditation (NBA) from 2013-2019. As Director of IIT Delhi, Dr. Prasad, together with his colleagues, was able to take a number of initiatives. Thanks to the collective effort of the entire Institute fraternity during his tenure as Director, IIT Delhi is now counted amongst the top in the country, and ranked very high internationally.
