This is Margi Madhu. He was enacting Ravanas death scene. It was intense. Someone sent me a message during the performance. I was too lost in the event. Two hours later, I saw the message on my mobile... it said Kab marega?(~ स्वामी शुद्धशीलानंद)

March 27, 2011: Mohit Jolly (now Dr. M. K. Jolly, IISc BLR), had organized a workshop on science communication, which was to be conducted by Dr. Geoff Hyde (https://writeaboutresearch.com/?page_id=92). At the end of the workshop, all of us went for a tour around Kanpur, especially Bithoor. We had a brief stopover at J. K. Temple, and there we were, feeding on the ice-golas. Well, to be frank, I avoided feeding on one!.(~ स्वामी शुद्धशीलानंद)

March 27, 2011: Since this thread has become abuzz with experiences now, I'm also reminded about the various anecdotes which I experienced during my time at IITK. Myself Sharad Varshney, M.Tech '84 batch (Civil Engg.)(1984 to 1987). The most traumatic one was when I was preparing my final M.Tech thesis in Hydraulics for defence in July 1987. It's almost 38 years now but I remember as if it happened recently. My guide Dr.S. Ramaseshan was a tough guru and was too enthusiastic for me to club Hydraulics with Remote Sensing where Dr KK Rampal was my mentor. Both of them squeezed me like anything and also got my period extended by one year (with scholarship). Both of them were guiding me for reclamation of water and soil around Ganga river in Varanasi area. So when I was giving final touches to my M.Tech thesis for defence the next day, I was sat in the Computer Centre (CC), the whole night. (Those were the days when we used FORTRAN -IV, CCT.). Frankly speaking, I was not so computer savvy at that time. That night at around 3 am, I don't know by which blunder of mine, the Ganga river suddenly disappeared from the map of Varanasi which I was preparing..... Imagine Varanasi without Ganga...😄. मेरे पैरों के नीचे से ज़मीन खिसक गई l मेरी थीसिस में गंगा नदी ही सब कुछ थी, उसके बिना क्या होगा मेरी थीसिस का l All such negative thoughts began to crop up in my mind. मेरी तीन साल की मेहनत गई बेकार l I was sitting alone in CC at that time. However, with depleted energy, bated breath and hands trembling, I again started afresh. Virtually there were only 10 hrs. left for my thesis defence and Ganga river was not ready to appear. I was strongly reminded about Rishi Bhagirath at that time. Somehow, through various permutations and combinations, feeding different co-ordinates I continued trying through the night and sometime around dawn, to my utter astonishment, Ganga river again appeared on my map from nowhere. It was around 6.00 in the morning 🌄.Whew, what a relief.. While I was still gasping for breath, I could see my guide Dr Ramaseshan walking into the CC. He too was quite impressed on seeing me working at such an odd hour. I could see the glow of satisfaction on his face. He came and stood by me and just asked me, is everything OK. I replied in the affirmative and he walked away. How could I have shared the trauma with him, which I went through the whole night. All is well that ends well. I successfully defended my thesis under his able guidance, the following day. It was also July.🙏🙏. I will not forget this night throughout my life. ~ Sharad Varshney (M.Tech/CE/1987)
