Projects from the Industry

This year's SURGE programme has a new feature – projects from the industry. This will provide an opportunity to the students, as individuals or in teams, to work on real-world projects proposed by the industry (private or public sector). With mentors from both IIT Kanpur and the industry, and the provision of executing the work at both places, this programme is designed to be different internships exclusively in either academia or industry.

Some of the features of the programme:

  • The duration of the projects will be 8-12 weeks.

  • These projects will be executed by students from IIT Kanpur.

  • These will be mentored jointly by faculty from IIT Kanpur and representatives from the industry.

  • The project can be executed both in IIT Kanpur and well as in the industry but a minimum of 25% of the time has to be spent by the student in IITK.

  • The student stipend is to be paid by the industry (suggested minimum is Rs 15000 for the entire duration).

  • The industry and the concerned faculty can discuss and agree upon additional expenses.

  • Regarding nature of the projects, non-confidential projects are encouraged. If nature of the work is confidential, then NDA needs to be signed with the faculty mentor and the student.

Short duration project proposals are invited from the industry with the following information:

  1. Titles of the projects

  2. An outline of the work to be done with the expected deliverables, and any terms and conditions

  3. Number of students to be supported

  4. Student stipend
