Prof. Tarun Gupta is the Pawan Tewari Goldman Sachs Sustainability Faculty Chair in the Department of Civil Engineering at IIT Kanpur. He is currently Dean of Research and Development at IIT Kanpur. He completed his graduation in Industrial Chemistry from University of Delhi (1996), M.Sc. in Chemistry from IIT Roorkee (1998) and M.Tech. in Environmental Science and Engineering from IIT Bombay (2000). He was selected for DAAD Indo-German Student Exchange Program and carried out 9-month research at the Department of Mechanical Process Engineering, TU Dresden, Germany. He obtained his Doctor of Science in Environmental Health from Harvard University School of Public Health, USA (2004). Prof. Gupta has designed and developed a submicron aerosol sampler, which has been commercialized by Envirotech Instruments Pvt. Ltd., Delhi and is being marketed as PM1 sampler (model: APM 577). He has also transferred a technology to BARC, Mumbai for retrofitting an existing high volume PM10 sampler into a high volume PM2.5 sampler with only minor operational changes. He has transferred 3 home grown technologies to the industry. Two such technologies are currently available on the market. He has authored more than 150 international peer reviewed journal publications, guided 11 PhD students, and filed 8 patent applications in India. He has received several recognitions including INAE Innovator and Entrepreneur Award (2018), VNMM Award (2017), NASI Scopus Young Scientist (2015), INSA Medal for Young Scientist (2011), INAE Young Engineer Award (2009) and IEI Young Engineers Award (2008).
