Welcome Message by Chairman, IIM Kanpur Chapter

Dear Members of the IIM Kanpur Chapter and Friends,

    After serving three years in the executive committee, with two years as secretary, I am overwhelmed to chair the Indian Institute of Metals, Kanpur Chapter for ther term 2012-13. I take this opportunity to welcome all members and particularly, new student members, to take advantage of newly created website of IIM Kanpur chapter. Over the years, IIM Kanpur chapter has dramatically grown from strength to strength and has increased its activities for the benefit of the IIM members and particularly for the student community. This website provides a glimpse of our past and present activities.  

   IIM Kanpur chapter regularly participates in IIM council activities and has organized NMD-ATM in the year 1999. IIM Kanpur chapter in collaboration with Department of Materials Science and Engineering has also organized several international conferences/workshops, including Metallo in 2007, Processing, Characterization, and Properties of Advanced Engineering Materials in 2010, Nano-bio CHAMPS in 2011, etc.

   One of the regular activities of the chapter is to organize ‘Prof. N.K. Batra Metals and Materials Quiz’ for local school students. Some of the most recent activities are as follows, a) organizing technical talks, b) delivering ‘popular lectures at local schools’ and c) Organizing lectures on fundamental topics, d) Demonstrating simple science experiments, as well as on e) showcasing emerging research areas for the student members of community.

   I am very proud to announce that Prof. S.P. Mehrotra has been awarded as honorary member of IIM, and also IIM Kanpur chapter recently received the ‘Best Chapter award’ in the medium chapter category during NMD-ATM at Hyderabad on 14^th November, 2011. 

    Finally, I am very pleased to mention that IIM Kanpur chapter has been very successful in last several years in its drive to increase the membership. This has been largely possible because of the participation of the undergraduate students of Institute of Engineering and Technology, CSJM University, Kanpur. In this context, I am sure that this website will be helpful for accessing all relevant information and simultaneously, will attract students and professionals to become members of IIM.     I thank the continuous support from all the members of IIM Kanpur chapter as well as the faculty of Department of Materials Science and Engineering, IIT Kanpur in carrying out all our past and present activities. I do hope that our activities will grow in the days to come with your active co-operation!

 About Us

    Indian Institute of Metals (IIM) Kanpur Chapter is being supported by the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur and the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgical Engineering, U.I.E.T, C.S.J.M. University, Kanpur. The aim of IIM Kanpur Chapter is to promote Materials Science and Engineering education and encouraging the podium of Materials Science and Engineering awareness in the society.

      IIM Kanpur chapter routinely organizes Materials Quiz (during Aug. every year), and reaches schools and colleges delivering several talks relating materials to everyday life. IIM Kanpur chapter activities also include organizing workshops and conferences, involving student-faculty interaction, and understanding lecture series for clearing the flaws in the conceptual understanding.
