IIT Kanpur is organising the Eighth edition of ISSS National Conference on MEMS, Smart Materials, Structures and Systems, ISSS-NC8, at IIT Kanpur under the aegis of the Institute of Smart Structures & Systems, ISSS, India. ISSS is a Professional Society that helps to keep pace with the recent advances and give impetus to the emerging Smart technology in India.
It organizes a national conference every year on Smart Materials, Structures and MEMS, which has helped to bridge the gaps between the advanced level of technology abroad and the R&D effort in India. Basic aim of this Society is to foster dedicated research in this state-of-the-art/ cutting edge technology.

IIT Kanpur was established in the year 1960. The Parliament of India passed the ‘Institutes of Technology Act 1961’ declaring all the IITs as “Institutions of National Importance”. IIT Kanpur has demonstrated its excellence in research in many areas including Smart and Nano-materials; Multifunctional Composites etc. IIT Kanpur has a vibrant university atmosphere with a combination of strong academic and research activities.

The initiative to conceive a grand design for technical education in India and implement the concept true to its spirit, in the form of IITs is one of the greatest hallmarks of visionary development in independent India.
