Dr. Ashok N Bhaskarwar

Professor/ Petrotech Chair Professor, Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Delhi

Prof. Ashok N. Bhaskarwar obtained his Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, in 1987. He later had post-doctoral assignments at the State University of Gent, Belgium, and at the I.I.Sc., Bangalore, before joining I.I.T., Delhi, on July 3, 1990. He had been awarded the prestigious INSA Medal for Young Scientist in 1991 and received the BOYSCAST award of Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, in 1994. He had been a Visiting Professor at the famed Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, University of Minnesota, U.S.A., during 1995-96. He had been a member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the international journal "ACH -- Models in Chemistry" for several years. More recently, he has also been inducted into the advisory and editorial boards of several international journals spanning a wide range of science from biological and medical sciences to fuel cells. He is an active reviewer for leading international journals like Chemical Engineering Science, AIChE Journal, Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, Applied Mathematical Modelling, Applied Catalysis B: Environmental, etc. Professor Bhaskarwar's research interests include foam-bed reactors, dissolution kinetics, thin film growth, photochemical and photo-electrochemical reactors, heat-transfer augmentation, agglomeration kinetics, flow of fluids through porous media, pollution-preventing technologies especially the novel printing inks, paints, fuels, and lately development of multifunctional nano-constructs for targeted drug-delivery systems. A start-up christened EnNatura Technologies Ventures Private Ltd has recently been launched by a team of his students clasping the pollution-preventing printing inks developed in his Laboratory.

Prof. Prabhu R Nott

Chairman, Department of Chemical Engineering, IISc, Bangalore

The research group of Prof Prabhu R Nott is interested in the flow and dynamics of complex fluids, such as dry granular materials, particle-fluid suspensions and collections of swimming microorganisms. Understanding the behaviour of these materials is of tremendous practical benefit, as they are processed or transported in large quantities in many industries, as much as it is a scientific challenge.
Many features of such complex fluids are due to the presence of one or more internal variables that identify the microstructure. Identifying these variables and connecting them to the macroscopic behaviour is one of the main challenges. The research group of Prof Nott aims to achieve a fundamental understanding of these systems, so that processes and equipment for industry may be designed in a more rational and efficient way. The ultimate aim is to develop continuum descriptions for their flow. Their investigations are a combination of theoretical analysis, experiments and computation.

Dr. Anupam Pal

Assistant Professor, Biological Sciences and Bio-engineering Department, IIT Kanpur

Dr. Anupam Pal obtained his Ph.D from the Pennsylvania State University (USA), in 2000 and had his postdoctoral training in the same University. Dr Pal joined IIT Kanpur on July 3, 2006. His research interests include fluid structure interation in biological systems. Flow through the physiological systems, such as the gastrointestinal tract, is both driven and controlled by muscular contractions. His research involves development numerical and experimental models to understand biomechanics of physiological transport processes, developing of diagnostic tools and treatment procedures for diseases related to fluid transport in the human body.
